- What is the Education Package (BuT)?
The Education and Participation Package (BuT) is a federal government initiative that supports children and young people from low-income families. Its goal is to provide them with better opportunities for education and social participation. A key component is learning support—qualified tutoring.
If your child is struggling in school, at risk of not being promoted, or unable to achieve an important school qualification without additional support, you may be eligible to have tutoring costs reimbursed through the BuT package.
A key part of the application is confirmation from the school that additional learning support is needed. You will need the appropriate forms, which you can download here:
- Who is Eligible for Free BuT Tutoring?
Generally, children and young people whose families receive one of the following benefits are eligible:
- Citizen's Allowance (formerly Unemployment Benefit II/Hartz IV) or Social Allowance
- Social Assistance
- Child Supplement
- Housing Allowance
- Benefits under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act
Important: The school must confirm the need for learning support, and there must be no comparable free school programs (e.g., support courses) available that could address the issue.
